A Mother and Son’s Conversation–DACA and Hope

On September 25th, 2017, YouTube group we are mitú uploaded a video that consisted of a conversation between Emmanuel Ramos Barajas, a Mexican to immigrated to America, and his mother. While in the background of a montage of many other Mexicans and tidbits of their daily lives, the conversation provides a very hopeful message.

One of the statements that Barajas’ mother made that really stood out to me. She said that “when a plant starts to bloom once you’ve trimmed it, it sprouts new blossoms all over, and our plant will bloom again, and our roots are already there, they run deep.”

The culture of many immigrants is firmly positioned in America. Many immigrants work hard to build lives in America. Some are successful. And Barajas’ mother reminds us that no matter what Trump has said about DACA, there is always another way. There is always hope.

And immigrants are here to stay.
