UMD Contribution to DACA

dream gala
A UMD organization called PLUMAS, the Political Latinx United for Movement and Action in Society, is using funds raised from a gala to help UMD students in the DACA program to pay for their renewal fees. They also provide one academic scholarship from the funding. The first Dream Gala was held in February 2017. In September 2017, when the Trump administration announced that the program was going to be phased out in six months, PLUMAS used about $3,000 raised from its Dream Gala to assist DACA UMD students. The renewal fee for DACA recipients is $495 and is especially high for students who have tuition and fees to pay for. Some students may be too busy to work or others may work but have many other commitments to pay for. Many college students experience financial hardship. PLUMAS just held their second annual Dream Gala this past Wednesday and are working hard to raise over 3,000 dollars again. You can contribute towards the DREAM fund here.
